If you’re a local business owner in the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency’s (CRA) district who thinks your exterior space and/or signage could use a facelift, the CRA is here to help! The CRA’s Paint-Up & Signage Program was put in place with an ultimate goal to help local business owners improve their exterior attractiveness because when local businesses win, we all win.
The Paint-Up & Signage Program was originally established by the Delray Beach CRA to encourage existing building owners or tenants to improve the exterior of their buildings through a new coat of paint, and was later expanded to include signage. The program allows the building owner or tenant to share the cost of adding signage to or painting an existing building with the CRA. Since the program’s inception, more than 50 business owners have been awarded Paint-up & Signage Program funding, and the CRA has invested an estimated total of $250,000 through this funding program.
Business owners and tenants in the CRA district are required to attend a CRA pre-application grants workshop or meet with CRA staff prior to submitting an application. Applications will not be considered until all required documentation has been submitted to the CRA, including a completed application form, paint color samples, two detailed cost estimates (for painting and signage, if applicable), and a written verification of color change approval. The application review and approval process can take anywhere from six to eight weeks.
The maximum award amount per project is 50% of exterior painting, pressure cleaning and signage costs, up to $5,000. Funding assistance is limited to a maximum of $5,000 per applicant per year, and funding is budgeted on an annual basis and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. All applications are subject to the approval of the CRA board.
“This program helps our local, small business owners spruce up and improve the appearance of their business,” said Alexina Jeannite, grant manager at the Delray Beach CRA.
The mission of the CRA is to foster and directly assist in the redevelopment of the Community Redevelopment Area in order to eliminate blight, create a sustainable downtown and encourage economic growth, thus improving the attractiveness and quality of life for the benefit of the CRA District and the City of Delray Beach as a whole. Through initiatives and programs like this, the CRA’s goal, and the goal of local business owners, is being met in a great way.
