Want to Start a Business? We Can Help!
While being your own boss is a difficult and trying task, there is also great reward – or else no one would do it, right? Right! In an effort to help aspiring business owners move forward with their business dreams, the Delray Beach CRA is partnering with the Office of Equal Business Opportunity (OEBO) to create a “How to Start a Business in Palm Beach County” program.
“We saw a need for more direct assistance and availability of information for business in the CRA District and City of Delray Beach as a whole,” said Renée Jadusingh, Delray Beach CRA executive director.
After participating on a virtual “Tuesday’s Tips” panel with the OEBO on the topic of “Entrepreneurship in this Emerging Economy,” and viewing several other virtual sessions hosted by the Office of Equal Business Opportunity, Jadusingh contacted Antonia Smith at the OEBO and asked how the CRA could be more involved with the department and do something specifically for Delray Beach.
“The idea to create a program between the Palm Beach County OEBO and the CRA came from this agency’s shared goal to provide small companies and startups with necessary information to do business in Palm Beach County properly and in a way that makes them viable and competitive in a robust enterprise environment like the one in this county,” said Antonia Smith, OEBO outreach and public information coordinator. “This program is a way to reach out to businesses in municipalities around the county. Delray Beach is a great place to start.”
So with a goal to provide more direct assistance and availability of information for businesses in the CRA District and City of Delray Beach, they hope to offer more information about how to start a business in the County and also how to get access to capital. This is the first time that the CRA has partnered with the Office of Equal Business Opportunity.
The program will offer a three-part series of workshops, including Starting a Business in Palm Beach County, Accessing Capital, and Doing Business with Palm Beach County. There will be several professionals on hand to lend expertise in these areas.
Potential small business owners will be given the tools to learn how to be licensed to properly do business in Palm Beach County by registering with the State of Florida and the Tax Collector’s office, how to be fund-ready when opportunities arise, and what capital resources are available to them. Program specialists from the OEBO will also present the steps and benefits to getting certified to do business with Palm Beach County.
The Delray Beach x Palm Beach County workshops are held Thursday, October 29, November 5 and November 12 at 6 p.m. Please visit https://pbcgov.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMkf-yhrT0rGdTn7PPFXkt28ymI_yIrZUvy to register.
