Maximizing Food Budgets at Delray GreenMarket with SNAP and Fresh Access Bucks
It seems like the budget for food isn’t stretching as far as we’d like it these days, which is why the CRA is here to help! This is your delicious reminder that the various vendors at the Summer (and Winter when we get there) GreenMarket accept both the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program and the Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) for healthy food options.
Yes, you read that right! So instead of shopping at the local grocery store or food market for less-than-healthy produce and proteins, head to the GreenMarket instead. FAB can be redeemed for fresh, Florida produce, including fruits, vegetables, food seeds, and vegetable start plans.
What makes this program so amazing is that after the launch of the SNAP program, the Delray Beach CRA was selected as an approved Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) Provider by Feeding Florida, which is the state’s network of food banks working to solve hunger. This was – and continues to be – a proud moment for our CRA team because it aligns with our goal of taking the very best care of our community members.
The Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) program plays a crucial role in alleviating financial pressures for families who find it challenging to buy healthy foods or often resort to less nutritious, cheaper options. Essentially, FAB provides additional funds that enhance the purchasing capacity of SNAP recipients specifically for fresh produce. This allows them to allocate their regular SNAP/EBT funds towards a broader variety of food items. For every dollar spent using SNAP/EBT at the market, an equivalent amount in Fresh Access Bucks is provided (up to $40 per market), effectively doubling the value of their spend on fruits and vegetables. This significant reduction in food expenses helps fulfill basic nutritional needs without imposing extra financial burden, offering substantial relief to both individuals and the community at large.
Another bonus is that it’s so easy to use and benefit from. SNAP recipients automatically qualify to take advantage of FAB, no advance or extra sign-up is necessary. SNAP customers simply need to go to the SNAP tent/booth at the GreenMarket and purchase tokens using their SNAP/EBT cards. When SNAP recipients spend $10 using their SNAP/EBT card, they will automatically receive an extra $10 for free. These cards can be redeemed at a variety of vendors throughout the GreenMarket.
The Delray Summer GreenMarket is located at Old School Square, near the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Swinton Avenue, at 51 N.
