If you’re a local who didn’t feel like driving or a visitor who didn’t have a car – or anyone in between – then you’ve more than likely hopped aboard Freebee to get you where you needed to go.
Freebee is a free, on-demand, point-to-point transportation service that is available to transport you in and around the Downtown core area. Originally brought to Delray Beach in September 2019 as part of the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency and City of Delray Beach’s comprehensive transportation system, the goal of Freebee is to provide services to residents, visitors and the general public.
The best part (other than being free!) it’s super easy to use. Riders can request a ride through the Freebee app, call or simply hail down a vehicle. Right now, there are a total of five Freebee vehicles providing service. Riders can also ride happy knowing that they’re helping the planet considering all Freebee vehicles are 100% electric.
“Freebee has created a synergy [in the City],” said Ivan Cabrera, redevelopment manager for the Delray Beach CRA. “The community and visitors love the service. Residents rely on the service for their transportation needs, to run errands, to avoid traffic coming downtown, and more.”
According to the CRA Redevelopment Plan, the continued development and redevelopment of the compact downtown core will continue to encourage alternate means of transportation, such as the trolley and private multi-modal transit, particularly where employment and housing are within walking distance of each other. With specific regard to Freebee, the CRA continues to provide transportation options to residents, visitors and the public in general.
“Freebee helps further the mission of the CRA because it is an economic development engine,” Cabrera said. “Local businesses can promote their venues advertising on the Freebee app for free, as well as have deals or promotions to drive foot traffic to their businesses.”
Overall, Freebee is a win, win for the City and the community members, so let’s honk, honk for this continued partnership!
