The CRA Continues Investment in Community Spaces
Carver Square Park has officially reopened following a comprehensive renovation, marking another meaningful investment by the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in neighborhood infrastructure and shared community spaces.
The project was completed through a partnership between the Delray Beach CRA and the City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation Department. As CRA Assistant Director Christine Tibbs explained, “The CRA had the opportunity to work with the City of Delray Beach Parks and Recreation by providing the funding for the renovation of the whole park.”
Located within the CRA District, Carver Square Park plays an important role as a neighborhood gathering space. The renovation aligns closely with the CRA’s broader mission to improve the built environment and enhance quality of life for residents. “The CRA is tasked with eliminating slum and blight through improving the built environment,” Tibbs explained. “In recent years the CRA has added 30 workforce housing units to the immediate area and has worked with the City of Delray Beach Public Works Department on significant infrastructure improvements in the area. This project is another commitment to further investing in the area and the gathering spaces to improve the quality of life for all residents within the CRA District and the City of Delray Beach.”
The improvements to Carver Square Park were extensive and designed to refresh the space while honoring its surrounding history. According to Tibbs, “everything was updated through this project.” Enhancements include brand-new playground equipment with the addition of a swingset, new AstroTurf, updated landscaping, and new benches, fencing, and trash receptacles.
The redesigned playground also pays tribute to the area’s cultural roots. “The playground pays an homage to historic Frog Alley, the area that the playground is in,” Tibbs noted, reinforcing the CRA’s approach of blending revitalization with respect for neighborhood history.
With these updates now complete, Carver Square Park offers a renewed space for families, children, and neighbors to gather, play, and connect. The project reflects the CRA’s continued focus on strengthening community assets, supporting livable neighborhoods, and investing in spaces that serve residents today and for years to come.
