The CRA District is home to a network of parks and playgrounds that give residents and visitors room to gather, play, and unwind close to home. Here is a look at seven of them.
Rev. J.W.H. Thomas Jr. Park, 46 SW 9th Ave, is named for the longtime pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and serves as a neighborhood gathering spot in the southwest section of the district.
Catherine Strong Splash Park, 1500 SW 6th St, offers a splash pad and playground for families looking to cool off during Delray Beach’s warmer months.
Merritt Park, 316 SW 2nd Ave, is a smaller neighborhood park offering open green space within walking distance of the surrounding residential blocks.
Currie Commons Park, 700 SE 2nd Ave, includes a lighted little league field, multi-purpose field, and playground. The park is currently undergoing improvements, including a new restroom and storage building.
Veterans Park, 802 NE 1st St, sits along the Intracoastal Waterway and includes pavilions and a gazebo available for rent, making it a popular spot for community gatherings.
Pompey Park, 1101 NW 2nd St, has served the West Atlantic Avenue neighborhood since the 1950s and remains one of the district’s busiest recreation hubs. The park is in the middle of a significant expansion that will add new pools, a baseball field, a playground, basketball courts, additional restrooms, a park shelter, and a new recreational building.
Plumosa Park, 1720 NE 3rd Ave, spans 10.5 acres and includes barbecue grills, picnic tables, a baseball and little league field, and a walking trail.
