Supporting Community Redevelopment Through Legal Guidance
Behind every successful redevelopment project is a team working diligently to move initiatives forward — often in ways the public doesn’t see. For the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), that includes the important legal work handled by Cassidy Heitman, who recently joined the CRA as Legal Advisor.
Cassidy’s path to law was rooted in service from the start. “I have always been interested in helping my community and public service,” she shared. “The opportunity to advocate for others and make a meaningful impact through the legal system is what led me to pursue a career in law.” That commitment to public service naturally aligned with the CRA’s mission, which drew her to the organization.
“I was drawn to the Delray Beach CRA because I greatly admired its mission and the way the CRA serves the local community,” Cassidy explained. In her role as legal advisor, she plays a key part in supporting the CRA’s work behind the scenes. “In my role as legal advisor, I support the CRA’s mission by reviewing agreements, conducting legal research, and helping the team move initiatives forward.”
While legal work is often invisible to the public, Cassidy notes that it is essential to ensuring projects stay on track. “People may not realize what happens behind the scenes to support CRA initiatives, such as ensuring compliance and reviewing agreements to help projects move forward smoothly.” From development agreements to program support, this careful review helps protect the CRA and keeps redevelopment efforts progressing efficiently.
Although she has only been with the CRA for a short time, Cassidy says the team environment has made a strong impression. “I joined the CRA only a few months ago, but I’ve really enjoyed how friendly and collaborative the team is. Everyone is supportive and works together toward the CRA’s mission.” That sense of collaboration extends beyond the office and into the community.
“Since starting with the CRA a couple months ago, it’s been rewarding to see how our work directly impacts the CRA Districts,” she said. “Also, I have enjoyed meeting and engaging with community members through CRA Socials.” These interactions provide a tangible connection between legal work and its real-world outcomes.
Cassidy sees her legal perspective as a vital support system for the CRA’s broader goals. “My legal perspective supports the CRA’s mission by reviewing agreements, conducting legal research, and helping the team achieve our goals.”
Outside of work, Cassidy stays grounded by enjoying time with loved ones and exploring the city she serves. “In my free time I like to read, exercise, spend time with family and friends, and try local restaurants.”
As the CRA continues its work across Delray Beach, Cassidy’s role ensures that each step forward is supported by thoughtful legal guidance — helping turn plans into progress for the community.
