Bringing Passion and Community to Arts Warehouse
For Lukas Maas, the path to Arts Warehouse and the Delray Beach CRA began with curiosity and a genuine love for his hometown. A Delray Beach native, Lukas discovered the gallery in 2024 after spotting a workshop listing in the Coastal Star. He did his research, visited the galleries, and was quickly won over. “Arts Warehouse is something very special that’s operating in my hometown,” he said, “and when I discovered it, I was ecstatic.” He started as a volunteer, was offered a part-time role a few months later, and eventually transitioned to full-time. His background is in retail and hospitality, though his passion for the arts dates back to his years at G-Star School of the Arts, where he studied Digital Video Production and Animation.
As Program Assistant at the CRA, Lukas’s days are hands-on and varied. “My typical day is at Arts Warehouse which involves greeting visitors, posting to our social medias, assisting artists with moving their pieces, and helping set up and break down tables and chairs for workshops,” he said. The role becomes especially active in the week leading up to an opening, when the team is focused on installing works throughout the gallery. During opening receptions, he can be found at the bar, connecting with the community the gallery brings together.
What Lukas values most is the community the institution creates around itself. “What I enjoy most about being a part of Arts Warehouse is that it resembles an ecosystem,” he said. “Whether it be artists, curators, visitors, workshop instructors, or arts administrators from other galleries or museums, we’re all brought together with the sole reason being the institution itself.” He also finds meaning in connecting Arts Warehouse to platforms he has long used to stay tapped into South Florida’s arts and music scene — like Always Lunes and Pure Honey magazine. “You can only imagine how I felt when someone came to an opening reception and said she saw the event listed in Pure Honey.”
Looking ahead, Lukas is most excited about Arts Warehouse’s reopening in May following its spring construction period. “Install week is my favorite time,” he said, “and it’s most exciting when it’s featuring artists I admire or curated by someone I admire”. He also looks forward to exciting projects that the CRA has in process and the celebrations that follow completion such as ribbon cutting events. The Delray Beach CRA is proud to have Lukas on the team. To learn more about the CRA’s Arts Warehouse — including upcoming exhibitions, workshops, and events — visit artswarehouse.org.
