Project Description: In order to accommodate increasing numbers of pedestrians in the beach area, particularly during the winter season, the Downtown Master Plan suggests an increase in the width of the sidewalk fronting the businesses on the west side of A-1-A south of Atlantic Avenue. Sufficient right-of-way exists to accommodate the expansion and retain the angled parking on the east side of the road. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is in the process of redesigning A-1-A to accommodate bike lanes, which may result in changes being made to the proposed sidewalk plan. Several public meetings have been held to discuss the FDOT project, but the final design for the bikeways has not yet been adopted.
