Parade Your Pet Down Atlantic Avenue!
The 16th Annual Easter Bonnet Pet Parade is coming to the GreenMarket on April 15th!
In 2002, the Pet Parade started as just an idea. Speaking with Lori Nolan, director of the GreenMarket, she said, “I wanted to create some buzz about the Market, and perhaps attract new people who had never been before. I was hoping to get between 20-25 pets.” To her surprise, 139 pets showed up the day of the parade. “They wrapped around the block! We were bursting at the seams with people and their pets!” The parade was a huge success. Not only did the parade attract many pet-lovers to the Market, it also serves to raise funds for local pet rescue organizations.
The parade has continued for 16 years, and carries-on in popularity. If you would like to register your pet in this year’s parade, come to the GreenMarket between 9-9:45 AM and look for the registration booth in the center of the Market. There is a suggested $5.00 registration donation that benefits local animal rescue. Prizes for best bonnet include: Most Traditional Bonnet, Most Original , Funniest Bonnet, Most Tropical, Most Frou-Frou, Owner-Pet Look-a-Like, Kids 12 and Under, and Teens 13 and Up. The parade leaves at 10AM from Old School Square Park, continues to NE 1st Avenue, makes a right on Atlantic Avenue, and finishes in front of the Cornell Art Museum. Each pet will have the opportunity to strut their stuff for the celebrity judges on the catwalk in front of the Cornell Art Museum.
We invite everyone to join us for this down-home event to celebrate the season, our pets, and good old-fashioned fun!
