We took some time to learn about this off-the-chain event with the President and Founder of the Delray Beach Bike Club, Patrick Halliday.
How did this event come about?
P: As we transition to a more bicycle mobile community, we wanted to offer a safer environment to children and adults. The Delray Beach Bike Club and Delray Beach Police Department jointly decided to create the Delray Beach Bicycle Safety Fair to educate and inform riders while offering fun activities.
What’s new for the 2nd Annual Delray Beach Bicycle Safety Fair & 25 Mile Ride?
P: The ride portion is actually new this year. It was more focused on educating children about bike safety. This year we wanted to offer something for adults to participate.
What was your most memorable takeaway from the 1st Annual Delray Beach Bicycle Safety Fair/Ride?
P: The excitement from the children as they received new bike gear was the best. Last year, kids received new bicycle helmets and lights for their bikes. Also, the bike rodeo was cool. Delray Beach Parks and Recreation offered a kids’ bike rodeo, which the parents seemed to love!
What are some tips that people can learn from the Delray Beach Bicycle Safety Fair?
