Paging through it is like reading an almanac of family cooking traditions—from Bubba’s Sweet Potato Biscuits (pg. 74) to Marilyn’s City Chicken (pg. 48) to Brian’s Mom’s Banana Pudding (pg. 77). You can look up recipes by contributors or by category (Appetizers, Salads, Main Dishes, etc.), and pages of Helpful Hints are placed throughout the book. Here’s one: did you know that to keep hot oil from splattering, you can sprinkle a little salt or flour in the pan before frying?
As an added bonus, the back of the cookbook contains great information about how to use herbs and spices; proper cooking times and temperatures; measurements and equivalencies; napkin-folding instructions; even “quick fixes” to salvage a dish when you goof up!
