A Greener Home for the Delray GreenMarket!
Anticipation is building for the Delray GreenMarket’s 17th season, which begins on Saturday, October 13. A big reason for all the buzz? The market’s new location!
For the first time in four seasons, the GreenMarket will again occupy green space: Old School Square Park in downtown Delray. It’s a wide ribbon of grass at NE 2nd Avenue, a half block north of Atlantic Avenue in the city’s Pineapple Grove Arts District, and it’s big enough to accommodate 60 vendors.
- Nicole Lee Tessler: “I think this is a great idea. Love the new location.”
- Leeanne Griffith: “I would double LIKE this if I could!”
- Karen Milloy Gobrecht: “Great, better location! Can’t wait!”
- Maria Snow: “This is great! Farm fresh local foods and creations within walking distance!”
- Rick Nelson Fla: “That’s going to be VERY NICE!!!”
Family- and Pet-Friendlier
Yes, it will be nice for shoppers, vendors, entertainers, and pets to tread upon soft, green earth again. It’s like the market has come full-circle. Remember when it was held in Worthing Park (before the park’s facelift)? After that, the market moved to the parking lot that Old School Square Park has since replaced, and then to 4th Avenue—a paved street that could get mighty hot toward the end of season.
“We’ve always envisioned getting off the asphalt,” said Elizabeth Burrows of the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), which sponsors the GreenMarket. “The new location is better, not just because it’s a park, but because it has tables and chairs, public restrooms, and playground equipment for the kids. We think it will attract people to the market and keep them there longer.”
Another bonus: plenty of free parking at the Old School Square Parking Garage adjacent to the site.
So get ready to experience the “greener GreenMarket” on October 13! Open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
